DIY: LED Disc Golf Lights

How We Make Disc Lights for Glow Golf:

We use super bright LED lights and a button-cell battery, attached with strong tape to make long lasting bright discs which are easy to find in the  bushes and will withstand  most impacts .  This approach works very well for Frisbees, too.

We have not seen any significant differences in disc flight characteristics when the lights are added.  The  lights are center-mounted to the underside of the disc golf discs and add very little weight. For best results, transparent golf discs should be used. The  lights are easily removed for daytime play.

This picture show the items used:  a transparent (candy) disc, two LED lights,  a button-cell battery,  and a 4" by 6" tape packet.

We trim the 4" x 6" tape  to roughly 4" by 4".  Regular 2" wide, clear packing tape can be used but doesn't hold as well.

This picture show how to bend the LED light wires (the one on the right is bent) so they will fit well on the battery. Click for a larger picture.

Once the wires are bent, the led lights will simply slide over the battery and turn on. The wire which is slightly longer goes on the side of the battery with the + sign. Make sure that you do NOT short circuit the battery with the LED wires.  The lights/battery are placed on the center of bottom side of the disc.

This picture shows the lights/battery with the tape applied. The disc should be clean and dry before applying the tape. You can put a small piece of scotch tape around the battery/LEDS before applying them to the disc with the 4" x 4" tape to keep them together in the unlikely event that they become separated from the disc during play.

Disc is illuminated and ready to play night disc golf. Note that we are not endorsing or recommending this method of lighting up disc golf discs to others. Rather, we are simply describing the method we use. Read the battery warning label and try this at your own risk. Also, make sure you keep the small parts out of the reach of children.

You can use heavy duty clear packing tape or tape pads (4" wide is best)  to attach the Battery/LEDS to your Discs.
